Joseph Bart Kraus, Sr., 73, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born June 13, 1936 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Mary Murphy Kraus and Frederick Kraus. Survived by his wife Carole J. Kraus.

Before retiring he was a Baltimore City Fire Fighter. He served in the Army and was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 2551 in McSherrystown and Reese Community and Vol. Fire Company. He was also a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Bonneaville, Pa.

Besides his wife he is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws Joseph Bart Kraus, Jr. of Pasadena, Michael F. and Verna Leigh Kraus of Gettysburg, Steven M. and Annmarie Kraus of Gettysburg, brother Michael F. Kraus of Perry Hall and sister Mary Meck of Baltimore. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers James P. Kraus and Frederick Kraus.

The family will receive friends at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 8:15 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, 12 E. Hanover St., Bonneaville, Pa 17325 with Father Caesar Belchez as celebrant. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors.
