I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Herlocker. I was a student at WMC when he had his running accident. I was amazed that he was able to return to WMC so quickly. I also remember how he walked the Main Street Mile the following year. Dr. Herlocker certainly was a man of great dedication. I wish that I had gotten to know him better when he was still with us because we both have a passion for running. This year I decided to run in the Baltimore Marathon and I will keep Dr. Herlocker in my thoughts through my training and the race.

It was with great shock and sadness that I received a note from Dave's daughter, announcing his sudden passing. Dave had been a running friend of ours since the 1980's and an inspiriation to us all after his accident. My last memory of Dave is of his running the 25th annual Forest of Needwood Race in near blizzard conditions and finishing with his loyal dog! Dave always gave the local club a generous donation in support of our scholarship fund. He also taught at least 1 of our former runners and students while he was a teacher at Western MD College. Dave's dedication to the sport of road racing and his support to many runners will never be forgotten. He even inspired us to start the Downhill Mile Run in Brunswick this past year. He will be remembered as a good friend and his loss will be difficult to deal with!

Please accept my condolences during this period of sorrow. Dave and I were friends in graduate school and lived in the Alpha Chi Sigma house.

I remember Dave as a level-headed fun person to know in graduate school, a real contributor to the lives of people around him.

I am profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of my fraternity brother, David W. Herlocker.
